Paving the Way for Vancouver’s Freelance Models.

freelance Model coach in vancouver

Meet Nikki!

I’m Nikki Zecha! Professional freelance model and coach! I love lake-days, snowboarding and coffee and I am passionate about fitness and all types of personal development!

I started modelling at the age of 15 and I quickly fell in love with the hustle and bustle of the industry in Vancouver. I am 5’3” so it wasn’t long until realized that high-fashion modelling was pretty much off the table for me. However, I was able to position myself in the niche of fitness and lifestyle modelling by connecting with small businesses and brands during their initial stages of business.

As I continue working on my craft, I have had the opportunity to work with some amazing local brands and even more amazing and creative humans! Modelling helps keep me in-shape and enables me to express myself though body imagery, makeup, styling and storytelling.

Contrary to popular belief, modelling has allowed me to meet some of the most driven, genuine and hard working people that I know. I’ve made many long -lasting friendships and have even been able to use my background in graphic design to help others in representing themselves. It is fair to say that freelancing has opened doors I never would have thought possible.

For me, modelling is a source of inspiration, dedication and connection that I have not been able to find anywhere els

Why Freelance?

While there are plenty of benefits of being signed with a modelling agency, it is always important to weigh the pros and cons to make a decision based on your needs as a creative.

Freelance modelling offers creative freedom as well as flexibility with rates and payments. Being a freelancer means you are not bound by any standards and are free to explore whatever fields and industries that interest you! From event marketing, to brand representative work, Vancouver has more than enough opportunity for anyone who knows where to look.

In my personal experience, I was able to book more paying jobs through my social media portfolio than I ever did through modelling with an agency. By being freelance, you also avoid agency fees and cuts due to agency commissions which can range from 10%-20%.

If you are someone who enjoys planning, values independence and loves connecting with people, then being self-managed may be the best option for you.

A lot of modelling has to do with comfortability in front of the camera and other people.
The ability to story tell via body imagery and facial expressions comes through experience and practice.

Create your portfolio

You are your own brand and it should represent the quality of your work as well as type of client you are looking for.
Being thoughtful and intentional from the beginning will save you a lot of time down the line.
